Notts County clash at King's Lynn postponed an hour before kick-off

Notts County's Boxing Day clash at King's Lynn has been postponed an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Torrential rain overnight and during the day has left parts of the surface unplayable leaving the referee no choice but to call the game off.

The referee had initially had a look at the pitch at 1.30pm but gave the groundstaff, who are part-time, to go to work on the parts of the pitch that were cause for concern.

But the referee appeared again at 2pm and immediately went to one of the goalmouths where a stamp of his foot led to water splashing around his ankles.

After a discussion with Notts head coach Ian Burchnall and Lynn manager Tommy Widdrington, the game was postponed.

Notts fans had already arrived at the ground and Burchnall went over to explain the reasons for the decision.

The two clubs must now rearrange the fixture but it does mean that Ruben Rodrigues, who was due to miss the game through suspension, will now sit out the crunch clash against Wrexham instead.
