Nottingham Forest have signed Manchester United midfielder James Garner on loan for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old spent the first half of the campaign at fellow Championship side Watford, but his spell was cut short and he has now switched to the City Ground.
Garner becomes the Reds’ third bit of January transfer business, following the extension of Anthony Knockaert’s loan from Fulham and the arrival of Filip Krovinovic on loan from Benfica.
Garner made 21 appearances for the Hornets, but struggled for game time following the change of manager at Vicarage Road and it was agreed his loan deal would be terminated early.
He has featured seven times for United, having made his debut as a substitute in a 3-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace in February 2019.
QPR were also understood to be interested in the teenager, but he has instead opted for Chris Hughton’s side as they look to pull themselves away from danger in the table.
His move comes after Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling was said to have turned down the chance to join Forest, while there has also been speculation about the future of summer signing Harry Arter.
The Reds are currently short on numbers in the centre of the pitch due to injuries, with Arter, Ryan Yates and Jack Colback sidelined.
They have until 11pm on Monday to agree any further deals, before the transfer window closes.
