Breaking - Nottingham Forest confirm Steve Cooper as their new head coach

Nottingham Forest have confirmed Steve Cooper as their new head coach.

Cooper succeeds Chris Hughton who was sacked last Thursday after less than a year in charge.

Forest have had to pay compensation to Cooper's former club Swansea to secure his appointment.

He was technically on gardening leave from the Welsh club which he left at the end of July.

The figures have not been announced but it is believed the Reds have had to pay around £1m for his services.

Cooper's first game in charge is now set to be against Millwall at the City Ground on Saturday.

He will be hoping to start his reign with a bang after the Reds secured a first victory of the season with a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Cooper arrives at the Reds with the club at the bottom of the Championship.
