Nigel Pearson appointed as new Bristol City manager to succeed Dean Holden

It is official, Nigel Pearson is the new manager of Bristol City.

The former Leicester City and Watford manager has been appointed as the successor to Dean Holden, signing a deal with the Robins until the end of the season.

Pearson, who guided Leicester City to the Championship title in the 2013-14 season, has been out of management since being sacked by Watford last July, with the Hornets battling to avoid relegation.

Watford failed to avoid the drop and are now battling to try and get promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Pearson, 57, has plenty of managerial experience from several caretaker spells before permanent stints at Southampton, Leicester (twice), Hull City, Derby County and Watford in England, while he has also had a spell in Belgium with OH Leuven.

He is appointed as the new Bristol City boss with the Robins currently 15th in the Championship following a poor run of form in recent weeks, which led to the departure of Holden after a run of six straight defeats in all competitions.

That was extended to seven defeats in a row as City lost at home against Barnsley on Saturday, and the Robins now sit ten points above the relegation zone, having been in and around the play-off positions earlier on this season.

It is understood that Pearson will be in the stands for City's trip to face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium, before taking charge for the first time for the clash with Swansea City this weekend.
