Neymar set to miss Brazil's remaining World Cup group stage fixtures amid ankle injury

Brazil superstar Neymar looks set to miss the remaining two group stage fixtures against Switzerland and Cameroon after suffering an ankle injury.

A report from geglobo suggests the Paris Saint-Germain forward will not be available for Brazil until after the Group Stage having suffered a sprained ankle. Tottenham striker Richarlison scored twice for Brazil as they eased to a 2-0 win to begin their World Cup campaign.

Neymar was substituted for Manchester United winger Antony in the 79th minute after taking a knock to his ankle, which he has had injury problems with in the past. Tite will now have to call upon the likes of Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, Rodrygo and Antony to replace the Brazil icon in the starting lineup.

Brazil defender Danilo has also suffered a similar injury to Neymar and he too will miss the games against Cameroon and Switzerland. The pair had scans this morning and have already started physiotherapy sessions as they begin their recovery, as per geglobo.

The scans showed a lateral ligament injury on Neymar's right ankle, along with a small bone swelling. The PSG star was seen hobbling off the pitch and limping through the mixed zone after the match, according to Brazil national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar.

Lasmar said: "Players are still in treatment. It is very important to be very calm, peaceful.

"This assessment will be carried out daily so that we have information and make the best decisions based on it. We can already say that we will not have the two players for the next game, but they remain in treatment with our objective of trying to recover in time for this competition."

Brazil remain favourites to win the World Cup in Qatar but will be hampered by the injury to their star forward. Tite will hope his team has enough quality to qualify top of Group G and have Neymar back in the team for the round of 16 fixtures.
