Stricter lockdown restrictions will kick in for Renfrewshire at 6pm on Friday as the region is is plunged into a second lockdown.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said infection rates remain “stubbornly” high in certain council areas and this could impact the NHS in winter.
New Level 4 restrictions will last for a “short and sharp” period of three weeks, ending on December 11.
Hospitality premises, gyms, shops and hairdressers will close and people have been encouraged not to travel.
The First Minister said people in Level 4 areas including Renfrewshire Council “should not be going out and about” during the three-week period and try to stay withinn their own council area unless travel is “essential”.
She confirmed this afternoon that the local authority area is one of 11 that will face a three-week shut down.
The move to a Level 4 zone will, the first minister insisted, protect the NHS and hospitals which are already under “severe pressure”.
All non-essential shops will close five weeks before Christmas.
Bars, restaurants and cafes will also close, alongside gyms, hairdressers and beauty salons.
Travelling outwith the local authority area will also now be banned by law.
Schools will however remain open and groups of up to six from two households can continue to meet outdoors.
Food outlets will be permitted to continue to operate takeaway services.
The lockdown announcement comes after the Express revealed yesterday that Renfrewshire had become the worst affected area for new Covid-19 infections in Scotland.
Data, released by Public Health Scotland, showed the region had overtaken Glasgow in the number of new cases recorded.
In the week to November 11, Renfrewshire recorded 285 positive tests for Covid-19 per 100,000 of population.
In total, 511 people in the local authority area contracted the virus in the seven days to Thursday, with seven covid deaths recorded.
The death toll for the area now stands at 233.
