Oliver Skipp commits future to Tottenham after signing new long-term contract

Oliver Skipp has committed his long-term future to Tottenham after signing a new contract in north London.

The midfielder's current deal was due to expire at the end of next season but he has now penned fresh terms until the summer of 2024.

Handed his senior bow by Mauricio Pochettino in the Carabao Cup game against West Ham in October 2018, the 19-year-old has mainly featured off the bench since making his debut.

Skipp has played in nine games for Spurs this campaign, impressing from the start in the games against Norwich City and Burnley prior to the suspension of football.

Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of the academy ace and his new contract signals that he is a big part of his plans for the future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking to Spurs TV about his new contract, the talented player said: "Being at the club since I was very young, it is nice to extend my contract here.

"Hopefully now I can push on and see what the future holds. Hopefully I can gain more and more appearances.

"It shows the manager trusts me and the club have plans for me going forward."

To date Skipp has made a total of 21 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, but that number should start to increase even more over the next couple of seasons given that Mourinho rates him extremely highly.

Handing the midfielder a rare start in the FA Cup defeat against Norwich City in March, Mourinho waxed lyrical about the player after the game.

"Phenomenal. Very, very good. Very, very good, solid performance," he said. "Even with the yellow card I kept him for two hours, first of all because Winks was in trouble, secondly because he was so solid, so mature, so confident that I was never afraid of a second yellow card coming.

"He was always in control of the game. We could see the difference also on the physical condition of him and the people who us playing all the time."

Skipp will be hoping to feature in Tottenham's last two matches of the season as they take on Leicester City on Sunday before travelling to Crystal Palace the following week.
