BREAKING NEWS: NBA moves up start of free agency to June 30

Per ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, the NBA will move up the start of the annual moratorium from midnight on July 1 to 6 P.M. on June 30. According to Bontemps, the move was made to allow teams to start their discussions with free agent players at a more “reasonable” time of day.

The move likely won’t have any drastic effects on the free agency process but it’s important to note that there will be a change to a system that’s lasted for as long as many remember. Front offices, players, media and fans all need to mark their calendars a day earlier as they prepare for one of the most exciting parts of the NBA offseason.
