It is not believed that the incident is related to an ongoing feud in the Mulhuddart/Blanchardstown area, and may have been the result of a domestic row.

Gardai confirmed the death of the man shortly after 8:30PM, with a spokesperson saying: "Gardaí in Blanchardstown are investigating the death of a man in his 20s following an incident at house in Mulhuddart.

"Shortly after 6pm Gardaí attended the scene of an incident in a house at Castlecurragh Heath, Mulhuddart where a man in his 20s was discovered with apparent stab wounds. He was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

"Investigating Gardaí have since arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the incident. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Finglas Garda Station.

Local Fianna Fail TD Jack Chambers condemned the attack, telling Dublin Live: "It is shocking to see such a violent knife attack in a residential area this evening and my thoughts are with the victim and his family at this difficult time.

"I would encourage anyone to contact the Gardai if they have any information. Communities in West Dublin are experiencing a worrying escalation of violence and crime in recent times and we need to see continued visibility of Gardai and deployment of national Garda units so people can feel safe in their homes and communities."
