Elon Musk has revealed his pop star girlfriend Grimes has welcomed a baby – sparking warm wishes of congratulations from fans online.
The 48-year-old billionaire took to Twitter to share the news on Monday night (US time) and reported that both his child and his 32-year-old girlfriend were both healthy and happy.
Elon sparked excitement on Monday evening when he replied to a fan asking when he expected to become a father with the response a baby was: “A few hours away!” sparking a frenzy of speculation his girlfriend of two years was about to give birth.
And four hours later, he claimed this was indeed the case as he gave a short but happy update on Twitter to say his girlfriend and their new "baby" were both well.

Elon tweeted: “Mom & baby all good,” and later when asked if he was the father of a "girl or boy", replied: "boy".
However it is possible he may be joking, as he later shared a photo of a tattooed toy baby when asked for a picture of the child.
Representatives for Mr Musk and pop star Grimes have been contacted for comment.

Elon and Grimes – whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher – started dating in May 2018.
Fans have, regardless, inundated the new dad with warm wishes following his update, with one tweeting: "Congrats to you & C!! Sending good vibes to all of you."

Another fan tweeted: "Congratulations Elon! May you have a lifetime of love from this and all of your children!"
And another noted the fact that the baby was born on May 4 - popularly known as "Star Wars Day" among sci-fi fans.
One follower tweeted Space X founder Elon: "The Force is strong with this Little One! Congratulations!"

Elon and Grimes surprised fans earlier this year when it was revealed that the singer was expecting her and Elon's first ever child.
Grimes – whose hits include Genesis and Flesh Without Blood – sparked excitement back in January when she declared she was "knocked up" in a social media post.
In February, the electro-pop star shared her thoughts on her pregnancy – and asked fans for advice.
She said via an Instagram post: "This whole thing has been a bit of an ordeal. Had some complications early on, a decent second trimester but starting to hurt everywhere at 25 wksz.
"What were yalls experience w this stuff like? I feel like I was woefully ill prepared cuz I dunno if pregnancy is as visible or discussed as it should be. I just didn't rly understand what I was getting into [sic]."
