Murder probe launched after elderly man found dead

A murder investigation has been launched after an elderly man was found dead at a property in Old Trafford.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Edgbaston Drive at around 9.30am on Wednesday morning after a receiving a concern for welfare report. A man, aged in his 80s, was tragically found dead.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said. He remains in custody to be questioned by detectives.

Earlier today, police remained at the scene on Edgbaston Drive. Pictures showed at least two police cars stationed on the road.

Detectives were also spotted carrying out enquiries. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Yesterday morning at 9:30am, officers were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a male in a property on Edgbaston Drive, Stretford.

"Officers attended and a man in his 80s was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. A 51-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning."
