Mikel Arteta appointed new Arsenal head coach

Mikel Arteta has been appointed as the new Arsenal head coach to replace Unai Emery.

The Spaniard was thought to be a serious contender for the Arsenal job in May 2018 when Arsene Wenger left the club, but the Gunners eventually went for Unai Emery after a lengthy interview process.

Arteta has joined the Gunners having left his role as assistant head coach at Manchester City after helping Pep Guardiola's side win two Premier League titles in three years.

The 37-year-old will  watch from the stands as Arsenal face another of his former clubs in Everton on Saturday afternoon.

More to follow.
