Met Office issues weather warnings as heavy fog threatens chaos ahead of big freeze

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings as heavy fog threatens to sweep over the UK.

The warnings affect South West England, East Midlands, North West England, West Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber and Wales overnight.

Thick fog could cause difficult, possibly dangerous, travel conditions, forecasters have warned.

It comes as snow is expected to hit Britain with -11C temperatures forecast in a matter of days.

Midweek will see a colder chill sweeping in and snow expected to arrive in Scotland first.

Weather maps predict snow may land in the northwest of Scotland by November 17, reports the Express.

Between November 17 and 26 a low risk of wintry showers is expected, but it comes with a high chance of frost and fog in the north.

"The threat for snow between November 17-22 looks to be around normal for the time of the year, which is any accumulating snow is likely to occur in the higher elevations of northern England and Scotland,” Tyler Ros, AccuWeather meteorologist said.

"We do have to watch a cold snap that appears to move into eastern Europe early next week.

"If this bleeds westward towards the UK (with the core of the cold remaining in eastern Europe), then the temperatures will be near to slightly below normal during this stretch."

WXCharts say temperatures could fall to between -7C and -11C from the week of November 23.
