Mesut Ozil has left Arsenal to join Fenerbahce, the Turkish side have confirmed.
The German playmaker had six months remaining on his Arsenal contract and had previously signalled his intention to see out the remainder of it.
But now he has reached an agreement with the Gunners to terminate the deal ahead of schedule, meaning he is able to join Fener on a free transfer.
It brings to an end a seven-and-a-half year stay in north London for the 32-year-old who won four FA Cups and three Community Shields in his time at the Emirates.
In the early part of his Arsenal career he reaffirmed his status as one the best number 10s in world football, registering 77 assists and 44 goals in 254 appearances.
However, he has not featured for Mikel Arteta's side since March and was left out of the Gunners' Europa League and Premier League squads for this season.
Despite this, Arteta still believes he leaves behind an incredible legacy at the Emirates.
"What Mesut has done at the football club is unquestionable and that will stay," he said.
“It doesn’t matter if he plays two more games, 10 more games or none. What he has done is there for the records, for the history of the club, and his contribution I think nobody can discuss that.”
Ozil now joins the club that he supported as a boy.
