Mercury Prize 2019: The 1975, Foals and Idles included in nominations

The nominees for the 2019 Mercury Prize have been revealed, with Foals, Idles and The 1975 all featuring in the shortlisted acts.

Picked by a panel of 12 expert judges from the music bizz, more than 200 albums were under consideration for the prestigious award which celebrates achievement across various genres.

Idles – Joy As an Act of Resistance

Little Simz – Grey Area

Nao – Saturn

SEED Ensemble – Driftglass

Slowthai – Nothing Great About Britain

The 1975 – A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships

The Mercury Prize is now in its 28th year, and this year, welcomed five new judges to the committee.

Joining the ranks are Radio 1’s Annie Mac, former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes, R&B star Jorja Smith, Glastonbury headliner Stormzy and Vice UK editorial director and freelance journalist Tshepo Mokoena.

Albums by British and Irish artists with a UK release between July 21, 2018 and July 19, 2019 were eligible for nomination.

More than 200 were submitted for consideration.

The prize will be awarded in a live ceremony on September 19.
