Meghan Markle makes surprise appearance at Wimbledon to support pal Serena Williams

Meghan Markle has delighted tennis fans by making a surprise appearance at Wimbledon.

The Duchess of Sussex, who is technically still on maternity leave after welcoming her son Archie with Prince Harry, is at the sporting event to support her friend Serena Williams.

The tennis ace is planning Slovenia's Kaja Juvan in the second round of the competition.

The Duchess looks happy and relaxed in blue jeans, a black top and white blazer. She's wearing her sunglasses and has her hair tied back.

The new mum has brought two old university friends with her, Lindsey Roth and Genevieve Hills, sparking rumours they could be two of Archie's godparents.

Meghan was Lindsey's maid of honour at her wedding.

The appearance comes just a day after Meghan and Harry announced they would not be releasing the godparents' names, but their visit to the UK will fuel speculation that they will be at the celebrations on Saturday.

The couple released further details of the christening earlier this week.

A statement from Buckingham Palace read: "Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6 July.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton.

"The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private."

About 25 people are set to attend the celebrations, including members of the family, close friends and the Godparents.

Meghan and Serena have been friends for several years, and she attended the Royal Wedding last year.

Meghan and her sister-in-law Kate Middleton went to watch her at the competition last year, and she was also in the crowds in 2017.

They sat side by side chatting and joking before rumours of a rift between the two royals couples started.
