Manchester United fined by The FA after admitting double player failure

Manchester United has been hit with an £82k fine after admitting two breaches of FA rules during Premier League matches in October.

The breaches revolve around contentious incidents during their clashes with Newcastle United and Chelsea last month - both games ending in draws.

First, there was the incident-packed affair with the Magpies with players surrounding the referee following a contentious moment between Callum Wilson and Red Devils' defender Lisandro Martinez. United then repeated the trick in their dramatic 1-1 draw against Chelsea with the referee once again being surrounded following the decision to award the hosts a penalty conceded by Scott McTominay.

Jorginho opened the scoring for the Blues only to see fellow midfielder cancel out his strike with the scores ending level. Speaking after the game at Stamford Bridge, United boss Erik ten Hag said: “It is what it is and we accept it and we fought back. I have to see. The referee made the decision, we have to accept it and we carry on.”

The behaviour of the Red Devils does not appear to have gone down particularly well with the FA though.

A statement confirming their decision released on Wednesday read: "Manchester United FC has been fined £82,000 in total for breaching FA Rule E20.1 during its Premier League matches against Newcastle United FC on Sunday 16 October and Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October.

"Manchester United FC admitted that it failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 49th minute of the Newcastle United FC game and the 84th minute of the Chelsea FC fixture.

"Independent Regulatory Commissions imposed fines of £45,000 and £37,000 for the respective breaches in the Newcastle United FC and Chelsea FC matches during separate hearings. The Independent Regulatory Commissions’ written reasons for these individual sanctions will be published in due course."

Following the decision, United have two further domestic games to tackle before the enforced break for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

They at first take on Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening and will be aiming for revenge having been on the end of a 3-1 defeat at Villa Park in what was Unai Emery's first game in charge of the Midlands outfit at the weekend.

Ten Hag's men round-off their domestic commitments with their final league game against Fulham.

During the break, the United boss is attempting to keep those not heading off to the World Cup up to speed with a winter training camp in Spain and will face face La Liga outfits Cadiz and Real Betis in friendly ties.
