A man who had a weapon in his possession has been arrested following "significant police activity" in Caldercruix earlier this morning.

Officers rushed to the village's Park Lea after receiving reports of the male holding the weapon.

He has since been taken into custody and police have moved to reassure the community that there is no longer any threat to their safety.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : "There has been significant police activity in the Park Lea, Caldercruix, area this morning.

"That's after police received a report of a man in possession of a weapon.

"Officers would like to reassure everyone a man has been arrested and there is no threat to the wider community."
