Man riding electric scooter dies in New Year's Day tragedy

An elderly man has died in a collision in Tameside on New Year’s Day.

Police were called to Springfield Road in Droylsden at around 1.40pm on Saturday (January 1).

Enquiries established that a man, 74, was riding an electric scooter down the road when he collided with two parked cars.

Emergency services attended and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have appealed for any information on the incident.

Sergeant Marie Eldred, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family as they come to terms with this incredibly tragic loss.

"This collision happened in the middle of the day so we are hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who may have dash cam or CCTV footage."
