Man killed and another injured in double stabbing horror in leafy Leamington Spa

A man has died and another person has been taken to hospital after a double stabbing in Warwickshire.

Shocked witnesses claim to have seen a man covered in blood with a knife who asked bystanders to call him a taxi.

The victim died at the scene following the stabbing shortly after 11am.

The condition of the patient is not currently known but he "sustained serious injuries", Coventry Live reports.

A builder, who was working near the scene, said: "It took over 15 minutes for the police to get here. It was about 100 metres down from the train station.

"The guy ran down the road past us. I thought he was going to try and nick stuff from our van parked on the road.

"He said 'Can you phone me a taxi? I need to get to my mums in Warwick.' He was covered in blood.

"He was wearing black jeans, a black bomber jacket as well. He was a black guy, around his 30s.

"Police cordoned off a big area of the road as they were worried he may have dropped something. He may have chucked the knife somewhere."

Retired shopkeeper and local resident Gurmeet Singh, 68, said: "I heard what had happened from my son.

"He called me asking about the incident. He was asking after me and was scared for me.

"I was coming from the shop when I saw police cars stationed down the road.

"It is a bit of a shock, to be honest. It's a horrible thing to happen on your doorstep."

Warwickshire Police said in a statement: "We are responding to a report of two people being stabbed in Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa.

"One male has been declared dead at the scene and another taken to hospital."

The statement continues: "The incident was reported to police at 11.01am.

"Anyone with information that could help police with their enquiries should call 101 quoting incident 137 of 15 January 2020

"Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

In a statement the West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a stabbing involving two people on Tachbrook Road in Leamington Spa at 10.58am this morning.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.

“Ambulance staff arrived to find two patients, both men, who had sustained serious injuries. Despite the best efforts of ambulance staff, one man was sadly confirmed deceased on scene.

“A second man received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff before being taken by land ambulance on blue lights to a major trauma centre for further emergency care.”
