Police have confirmed a man has died after a 19-hour stand off in a Welsh village in which residents were ordered not to leave their homes.
A number of police have been at the scene in Llwydcoed, near Aberdare, since Sunday afternoon and residents described seeing "dozens of armed officers" carrying firearms, Wales News reported.
Rhonda Cynon Taf Council asked people to avoid the area and confirmed a number of roads were closed on Sunday as the incident continued.
It came amid concerns for a man who was believed to be in possession of a firearm, South Wales Police said.
The spokesman added: "Officers were called to the address at 4.45pm on Sunday after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man believed to be in possession of a firearm.
"At approximately 11.45am today officers discovered the deceased body of a man inside the address.

"A police cordon remains in place at the location and the scene is being preserved. The man’s family are aware and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file of evidence will be put together for the coroner."
Earlier a resident said activity seemed to be happening in a woodland behind the estate.
He said: "Another dozen armed police have just gone past. I can see about six police cars around and about.
"Nobody is allowed to leave their houses. This is very unusual activity for a postcode like this.
"Increasing activity. What looks like floodlights are being carried towards the area of interest. There’s an ambulance at the top of the street."
He added: "There’s a big woodland at the back of the estate… that’s where the action seems to be."
Chief inspector Matthew Codd said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who was found deceased within the property and we are providing support to them at this difficult time.
“I would like to thank local residents for their understanding and cooperation throughout this incident.”
