Man dies after car and lorry crash shuts major road

A man has died after a car crash in Ashton-under-Lyne.

A car and a lorry collided on Stamford Square at around 2.15pm on Monday.

The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Police believe the man suffered a medical episode behind the wheel.

The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

No one has been arrested and officers are still trying to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit said: "Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this incredibly difficult time."

Anyone with information or dash cam footage, should call 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 1460 of 29/03/2021. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
