Man dies after being hit by vehicle while walking on motorway

A man has died after being hit by a vehicle while walking on the motorway.

Officers were called to junction 3 of the M67, near Hyde, at about 8pm on Sunday (January 2) to reports of a male walking on the westbound carriageway.

Paramedics attended and a 34-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A male driver stopped to help police, but no arrests have been made.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the man's death by Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Incident Unit.

The M67 was shut eastbound between junction three and junction four at Mottram for several hours while emergency services responded to the incident.

The motorway reopened in the early hours of this morning (January 3).
