Man City vs Borussia Monchengladbach venue confirmed amid German travel ban

Manchester City's Champions League last 16 clash with Borussia Monchengladbach will now take place at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on February 24.

A German travel ban has put several European ties in doubt with four Bundesliga outfits still in the competition.

The German Government have prohibited arrivals from England due to coronavirus and there is no exemption for elite sport.

It means City would not have been able to play the game at Monchengladbach's home ground.

As a result the Puskas Arena in the Hungarian capital will now host the first-leg.

The clash has followed the same fate as Liverpool's game with RB Leipzig.

Julien Naglesmann's side will host the first game but cannot welcome the Reds to the Red Bull Arena.

As a result they will play the 2019 winners in Budapest a week before City and Monchengladbach arrive.

A statement from European footballs governing body read: "UEFA can confirm that the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg match between Borussia VfL 1900 Mönchengladbach and Manchester City FC will now take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

"The date of the match (24 February 2021) and kick-off time (21:00CET) will remain the same.

"UEFA would like to thank Borussia VfL 1900 Mönchengladbach and Manchester City FC for their close cooperation and support, as well as the Hungarian Football Federation for their assistance and agreeing to host the match in question."

The 67,000-seater stadium, which was only opened in 2019, hosted last summer's European Super Cup and will be the venue for several Euro 2020 matches.
