Man City confirm two more players have tested positive for Covid-19

Manchester City have announced that Scott Carson and Cole Palmer, as well another member of staff, have tested positive for cornavirus.

The trio will now undergo a period of isolation, with the two first-team players being added to City's list of absentees ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final with Manchester United.

The announcement comes following a hectic two-week period for the Blues in which they have suffered a coronavirus breakout in their squad.

Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker were the first confirmed to have had tested positive on Christmas Day and they were then followed by four more players, as well as three members of backroom staff and a player from the Elite Development Squad, which led to the cancellation of a fixture with Everton on December 28 and the temporary closure of the City Football Academy.

City were back in action at the weekend to take on Chelsea and defeated the London club without Ederson, Ferran Torres, Tommy Doyle and the already injured Eric Garcia, who have all contracted the virus as well as Jesus and Walker.

In a statement the club said: "Manchester City FC can confirm that Scott Carson, Cole Palmer and one member of staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

"Both personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

"Everyone at the Club wishes Scott, Cole and all of our other colleagues a speedy recovery ahead of their return to work, training and competition."
