Man admits murdering his wife - her remains were found at a Stockport beauty spot

A man has admitted murdering his wife after her remains were found at a Stockport beauty spot.

Thomas McCann, 49, faces a life sentence after pleading guilty to murdering Yvonne McCann.

The 46-year-old mum and grandma was found dead at Reddish Vale Country Park in May last year.

McCann, bearded and wearing a black t-shirt, appeared during a brief hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court this afternoon via video link from prison.

He was remanded in custody, and will be sentenced at the end of the month.

No further details about the case were disclosed in court.

An investigation was launched after a member of the public found human remains at the park on Monday, May 25.

Police spent days searching the park, before McCann was charged with murder and appeared before magistrates on May 30.

Members of Ms McCann's family were in court to hear him enter his plea.

In a heartbreaking tribute released after her death, Ms McCann's children paid tribute to their 'louder than life' mum, describing her as the 'bond that kept us all together'.

Judge Alan Conrad QC told McCann: "I am going to fix the sentence date in this case as March 29, on which date you will be produced in court.

"You will be remanded in custody until then."
