Greater Manchester Police is appealing for witnesses after a man was hit and killed by a lorry at a busy junction.
The incident occurred at around 1.30pm yesterday, police said and a man, 55, sadly died at the scene.
The driver of the lorry remained at the scene to assist, police said.
A statement posted on the GMP Bury North Facebook page this morning said: "GMP collision investigators are appealing for information after a pedestrian died in Bury.
"The 55-year-old man was in collision with an HGV on Radcliffe New Road, Whitefield, at around 1.30pm on Wednesday 15 March 2023.
Some local residents have expressed concern about a "blind spot" at the junction.
"Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver remained at the scene to help police."
After the incident yesterday, Bury New Road was taped off between Elms Street and George Street for several hours.
A number of residents spoke of their concern about the busy junction where the crash happened, with a mum telling the Manchester Evening News: "They fly round this corner. It's a blind spot."
Janet Wain, a neighbour on Radcliffe New Road, said: "It's shocking, honest to god the amount of accidents. It needs something doing to it, 20mph or whatever. The houses actually shake."
Labour Councillor for Pilkington Park Elizabeth FitzGerald said her thoughts were with the family and friends of the man killed and that she will look into the concerns of some residents.
“First of all, my thoughts are with the family and friends of the person who died," she told the Mirror.
"I was nearby and saw the police taping up the road and fire engines at the scene. I don’t know the circumstances of the accident and am awaiting a report back from the Police and Council Officers.
"I will look into the concerns of the residents but at this time the police are asking for help, and I support their request for witnesses to come forward."
