Man, 52, charged over Oldham stabbing which left victim with 'serious injuries'

A man is due to appear in court over a stabbing in Oldham which left another man with serious injuries.

Greater Manchester Police has charged Ian Lawson, 52, from north Manchester, in connection with a stabbing on Oxford Street on Tuesday (October 19).

Emergency services rushed out to the scene after being called at 5.10pm, and a man aged in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He has since been released.

Lawson, of Audax Walk, has been charged with one count of attempted section 18 assault with intent to wound and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court today (October 21).

GMP say the incident is believed to be isolated.

Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Ian Lawson, of Audax Walk, Manchester, has been charged with one count of attempted section 18 assault with intent to wound and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear Tameside Magistrates today.

"Officers were called at around 5.10pm on Tuesday to a report of a stabbing on Oxford Street in Oldham.

"Emergency services attended and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The man has since been released from the hospital.

"Police believe this to be an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing."
