Man, 35, dies after 'large branch' falls from tree and hits him

A 35-year-old man has died after a 'large branch' fell from a tree in Wilmslow and hit him.

The incident happened on a public footpath between Styal Road and King's Road, near The Carrs, at around 2.15pm yesterday (Sunday). Emergency services rushed to the scene after the branch fell from the tree and struck the man.

Tragically, he was pronounced dead on the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

Cheshire Police said the Public Rights of Way department and Health and Safety Executive have been informed about the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, a Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 2.15pm on Sunday July 9, police were called to reports that a man had been hit by a large branch that had fallen from a tree on a public footpath between Styal Road and Kings Road.

"Officers attended the scene and sadly the man, a 35-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

"Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and both the Public Rights of Way department and Health and Safety Executive have been informed."
