Lyle Waggoner dead: Carol Burnett Show and Wonder Woman star dies at 84

Lyle Waggoner has died at the age of 84.

The actor was known for his roles in a number of hit TV shows in the 1960s and 1970s, including The Carol Burnett Show and Wonder Woman.

He died peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning after battling an illness, reports TMZ.

He was surrounded by his wife and sons.

Lyle's career took off in the mid-60s after he landed a guest role on Gunsmoke.

The star was also in the running for the title role in the iconic Batman TV series. He lost out on the part to Adam West.

Losing out on the role didn't put him off though, and Lyle went on to land a part on The Carol Burnett Show, a stint that went on to last seven years.

He played various characters on the legendary sketch and comedy variety show.

Lyle later went on to star in Wonder Woman.

The series kicked off in 1975 and saw him play both Steve Trevor and Steve Trevor Jr over three seasons of the show.

Lyle was also a massive heartthrob during the height of his fame, and even became the first male semi-nude centrefold in Playgirl magazine in 1973.

He also had his own company, Star Waggons, which provides customised trailers for people in the entertainment industry.

Lyle was born in Kansas City in 1935.

After high school and a brief stint at Washington University in St Louis, he joined the United States Army.

He served for two years in West Germany as a radio operator.

Lyle married actress Sharon Kennedy in 1961 and they had two sons, Jason and Beau.
