Love Island's Marcel Somerville 'attacked with machete as gang attempt to steal his car'

Love Island star Marcel Somerville was held by a gang carrying machetes in a 'terrifying' attack over the weekend, it has been reported.

The 34-year-old, who recently revealed he is expecting his first child with fiancée Rebecca Vieira, was said to have been set upon by four masked men on mopeds who shouted at him to 'get out of the f*****g car' as he headed to a restaurant with a friend.

A source close to Marcel told OK! online: "Marcel and his mate were driving around east London heading to their favourite restaurant and they noticed some people on mopeds getting close to them.

"Each time they stopped at a set of traffic lights the mopeds would pull up next to them on either side of the car and just looked shady.

“Then when Marcel and his friend pulled into a side street to park up they saw the mopeds head towards them again. Each moped had two people on and they kind of circled around the car.”

The insider claimed the attackers then drew machetes as they got off their mopeds.

"As Marcel opened his car door two of the gang got off the bikes and went for him with their machetes drawn swinging them at him. So he quickly closed the door and they locked the car from the inside," they explained.

The alleged attackers are said to have screamed 'get out the f***ing car' before hitting the windows of the vehicle.

Marcel and his pal sped away from the scene and headed straight home.

The insider confirmed that nobody was hurt with the car escaping with only a few minor scratches.

Marcel, who rose to fame as a member of band Blazing Squad before making the final of Love Island 2017, is said to be 'shaken' following the incident.

It comes after Marcel went through an ordeal last month when he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after passing out from a fever.

As he fought for his life, doctors discovered that the TV star had Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) - a serious complication of type 1 diabetes.

Marcel told OK! magazine : "I was throwing up, felt light-headed. I lost weight, my face was sunken and you could see my bones.

"It was because I have Type 1 diabetes, but I only found that out in hospital when they asked, 'Do you know you’re diabetic?' I had no clue."

Marcel then spent a week in intensive care as 'all the nutrients in his body' depleted.

"I was very close to being in a coma but thanks to the NHS I made it through," he said.

The health scare came just weeks before Marcel revealed his happy news that his girlfriend Rebecca is pregnant with their first child.

Marcel popped the question at their baby's gender reveal party.

The couple later revealed that their first pregnancy came early in their 15 month relationship but they tragically suffered a miscarriage.

Revealing the moment he found out, he told OK! : "I was in the studio with my headphones on and she tapped me on the shoulder.

"She had loads of pregnancy tests in her hand, just to make doubly sure. It was crazy! It's my first baby and I’ve been waiting a long time for this, so it's just mad."

Mirror Online has contacted Marcel's representatives for comment.
