Love Island's Greg O'Shea secretly leaves villa for tragic reason

Love Island star Greg O'Shea temporarily left the villa this week in an 'unprecedented' move by bosses.

The Irish rugby player was granted permission to depart the show in order to attend his grandmother's funeral.

24-year-old Greg secretly flew home to Dublin on Monday to be with his family after his gran died last Friday at a nursing home in Dublin.

Greg's relatives have since praised ITV bosses for allowing him to depart the villa for a short time.

His dad Niall O'Shea told Limerick Live 95: "Greg is a very good family man and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well."

In a statement they told how Greg's beloved nan Monica Ho, "passed away peacefully on 19th July 2019, in the care of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family."

A representative for Love Island told the Mirror: "Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral.

"Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa."

It comes after Anton Danyluk was also granted leave from the show after he fell ill.

The loveable Scottish gym owner was missing from an entire episode after his health scare last week.

After a brief absence, he surprised islanders who were clearly worried for him by walking back in through the main door.

His pals all raced over to hug him and ask him how he was doing, with him revealing all.

While he didn't go into detail or explain what was wrong, Anton did say he was feeling much better.

After introducing himself to the three new islanders, Greg O'Shea, Harley Brash and India Reynolds, he headed to the Beach Hut to break his silence.

He said: "I’m back, I'm back to my best and feeling the best I've ever felt in here, so I'm happy to be back to see the family again ."

Love Island airs all week at 9pm on ITV2.
