London's Old Street shut down after man stabbed as hospital tells patients to avoid A&E

A stabbing has reportedly closed major roads and a roundabout in central London as emergency services race to scene.

Multiple police cars were seen outside Moorfields Eye Hospital in Old Street this afternoon.

In a statement Moorfields Hospital said: "Please do not visit our A&E at City Road.

"The area is currently blocked off by the police due to an incident in the area. If you have an eye emergency, sudden sight loss or injury, please log on to speak to one of our doctors online first."

Drivers reported gridlocked traffic in the area as police cordons were put in place.

Photos and videos of passers-by show police cars lining the street and there are cordons in place blocking the entrance to the whole area.

One photo clearly shows police cars outside Moorfields Eye Hospital and a video shows it closed off outside the fire station.

There is queueing traffic on A501 City Road both ways from B144 Bath Street to Peerless Street. There is also traffic on A5201 Old Street both ways from A1202 Great Eastern Street to Old Street Roundabout.

London Ambulance Service also attended the scene and cordons remain in place.
