Lingfield Racecourse crash: Car driven into pedestrians leaving UB40 concert

Three people are in hospital after a car was driven into pedestrians leaving a UB40 concert at a racecourse.

Surrey Police was called shortly before 11pm on Saturday to reports a car had hit people near the Lingfield Park Resort, which hosted the sell-out show after the day's races.

The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, no arrests have been made and the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Chief Inspector Dan Gutierrez said: "We would like to reassure the public that this incident is not believed to be terror-related.

"We know that there were thousands of people in attendance at this event and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything or have any dashcam footage of the lead up to the collision to get in contact with us."

"Three pedestrians have been taken to hospital after a car drove into a crowd around 11pm.

"Enquiries ongoing & this isn't believed to be terror related. If you have any info please DM us quoting ref PR/P21165133."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The sellout crowd at the concert had been waiting for weeks to see the band after the original June 26 event had to be postponed because of Covid-19 regulations, which have since been lifted, Surrey Live reports.
