Laura Woods lined up for new TV role after quitting talkSPORT breakfast show

Laura Woods has confirmed she will be leaving the talkSPORT Sports Breakfast show at the end of June.

The popular broadcaster has hosted the flagship show for the past three years, winning the SJA Sports Presenter of the Year on two occasions. But in a statement released on Wednesday, it was confirmed her final show will take place on June 28.

“Laura Woods is leaving her role as host of the award-winning talkSPORT Breakfast show,” a statement reads.

“Laura has hosted the flagship show for the past three years, entertaining millions of people up and down the country from 6am to 10am every Monday to Wednesday. Her final Breakfast show will be on Wednesday 28th June.”

"'Woodsy' has formed a brilliant double act with the legendary Ally McCoist, becoming a much-loved member of the talkSPORT family and establishing herself as one of the leading broadcasters in the industry.

"Her warmth, wit and detailed sporting knowledge were crucial to talkSPORT being crowned Best Speech Breakfast Show at the ARIAS in 2021 - the top honour in UK radio - and she has twice been named the SJA Sports Presenter of the Year."

Woods herself added: “You lot, our listeners, have given me so much comfort and guided me through some of my toughest moments, without even realising it.

"So I wanted to thank you personally for that. I will miss it dearly. Even the Spurs fans.

“For what feels like a lifetime I’ve been a listener of talkSPORT. For the last six years it’s been my home, where we get to spend our mornings talking about sport. There’s nothing better. I know I will never find a job like this. It’s unique.

“Three years as the host of this amazing breakfast show, three bits of silverware for the trophy cabinet and record listening figures. I’m very proud of what we achieved here. One thing’s for sure: I will always be part of this family at talkSPORT.”

Head of talkSPORT Liam Fisher said: “Since first featuring on talkSPORT in 2017 Laura has emerged as one of the brightest stars of sports media. Her warmth, knowledge and love of sport have shone through and made her always connect with our 3.6 million weekly listeners.

“Her relationship with her fellow presenters like Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor and the galaxy of stars she has interviewed over the last three years as Breakfast host have created a fantastic listen every morning.

“I’m pleased that Laura will remain a part of the talkSPORT family.”

Her departure comes weeks after reports tipped her to be the new host of TNT Sports' coverage.

The channel which will replace BT Sport is on the lookout for a new anchor after Jake Humphrey announced he would be leaving the role following the Champions League final.

It is understood that station bosses have already opened talks with Woods, who has also worked for Sky Sports, ITV and DAZN. Her expertise isn't solely related to football either, throughout her career she has presented a variety of other sports including darts and rugby, something which is sure to appeal to the Warner Bros Discovery-owned station.
