BREAKING: Late morning crash causes police to close off Lanarkshire road

Police have closed a road in East Kilbride after a one-vehicle crash this morning.

Officers were in attendance at the Newhousemill Road bridge, a popular route between East Kilbride and Hamilton.

Drivers are being diverted on approach to the back-road which links the two Lanarkshire towns.

There has been no reports of any injuries following the incident.

Cops have cordoned off the area while road services try to uplift the vehicle.

Locals should avoid the route as motorists driving from Hamilton are being asked to turn at the bottom of road and return to main roads where they can access the A725 to reach East Kilbride.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live: "Around 11.45am on Thursday police were called to a report of a one vehicle road crash at a bridge on Newhousemill Road, East Kilbride.

"Emergency services attended and there are no reports of injuries. The vehicle will be uplifted."

A police officer was seen earlier hand-signalling drivers approaching the bridge from Hamilton to re-route.

At the East Kilbride point of access, a police vehicle is parked across the road beside a 'road closed' sign and tape to stop drivers passing through.
