Last of the Summer Wine star Juliette Kaplan has died age 80 after cancer battle.

The actress had a long battle with the disease, according to her agent Barry Langford who confirmed her death in a statement.

Tributes were flooding in for the "fearless and supremely gifted actress" after the news of her death emerged.

The statement read: "Juliette Kaplan, "Our Pearl", has finally succumbed to the cancer she has bravely battled for so long.

"Thank you everyone who sent their love and support to this fearless and supremely gifted actress. As she said, "Ta-ta and it's been fun"."

He added the hashtags: #LastOfTheSummerWine  #RIP #Pearl.

Juliette was well known for her role on the BBC sitcom Last Of The Summer Wine for 25 years spanning from 1985 until 2010.

The actress walked in the heels of on-screen character Pearl Sibshaw for 226 episodes of the series.

She joined the cast of Last of the Summer Wine in the Christmas special (PA)

Her character and on-screen husband were often tangled up in cheating storylines during her 25-year stint on the show.

Juliette made her mark on the acting spheres as she made appearances in EastEnders, Coronation Street and Doctors.

She had a happy love life as she was married to Harold Hoser from 1958 until his death in 1981.

The actress also raised her three children at her home.
