Khabib Nurmagomedov's father on ventilator in coronavirus fight as his condition worsens

Khabib Nurmagomedov's father has reportedly been placed back on a ventilator as he struggles to battle coronavirus.

Reports in the fighter's homeland of Dagestan claim Abdulmanap's condition has worsened since his son spoke out about his father.

The UFC lightweight provided an update on social media on Monday in which he revealed almost two dozen of his family members had been ill from coronavirus.

"In my personal case, I've had more than 20 people sick from my family," he said.

"More than 20 people were lying in the ICUs. And many of them are no longer among us. Many acquaintances have died, many parents of my relatives. Everybody is having a hard time dealing with it.

"There is a lot written on the internet about my father. My father, right now, is located in a hospital. He is in critical condition as a result of this virus.

"It impacted his heart because last year he had a surgery there, and right now, they did another surgery. He is in a very difficult situation, very difficult. We are asking Allah that he returns him to us.

"Our learned Islamic scholars are telling us, 'Stay home, and do the holiday prayer. Don't have guests. Don't go yourselves as guests.' It is a very difficult situation."

Nurmagomedov had previously said he would be ready to return to the UFC in September to defend his 155lb belt.

His next fight will be against Justin Gaethje following the American's stunning fifth-round victory over Tony Ferguson earlier this month.

Should Nurmagomedov declare himself able to return, his fight with Gaethje would likely take place on Fight Island.

Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov's bitter rival Conor McGregor also sent his best to the fighter's father.

"Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a man responsible for more world champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know," he said last week.

"A true martial genius, [I am] very saddened upon hearing this news tonight. Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time."
