The West of Scotland League proposals for a conference system below the Lowland League have been knocked back by the SFA.
A whistleblower revealed to Lanarkshire Live Sport that an email was sent by WoSL chiefs notifying them that the proposed conference system would not be allowed by the governing body.
Over 60 clubs agreed to leave behind the West Region juniors behind for mini-divisions at tier six, which would be a mix of teams from the Premiership, Championship, League One an League Two.
However, the WoSL were sent back to the drawing board and a new plan was put to clubs this morning.
This would see 17 teams enter a top division, including Bonnyton Thistle and the current West Premiership sides, known as tier six.
The remaining 50 sides would then enter a tier seven conference system.
It was claimed in the email that the SFA turned down the conferences as it would not be possible to add all of the teams to their Judicial Protocol.
There will be a conference call between the clubs tonight outlining the next steps for the new-look set-up.
The source from a Lanarkshire club described the news as "very disappointing" and felt like the WoSL supremos have "moved the goalposts" after clubs have already agreed to leave the juniors.
