French singer Juliette Gréco has died.
The iconic musician died on Wednesday near St Tropez in France.
She passed away from a stroke at the age of 93.
Her family confirmed the news of her death to AFP, writing: “Juliette Gréco died this Wednesday surrounded by her family in the house she loved so much. Her life was one like no other.
"She was still making French songs shine at the age of 89.”
The singer, born in 1927, was not only known for her music but also as a style icon and an artistic muse to photographers and writers.
When Juliette was 16 she and her sister were arrested by the Gestapo after her mother - who was working for the Resistance- disappeared.
After the war, Gréco spent her time in Saint-Germain-des-Prés cafes, performing music and reading poetry at local venues.
This is when she was photographed by artists including Robert Doisneau and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
She later made her singing debut in the Parisian cabaret Le Boeuf sur le Toit, singing the lyrics of French writers including Raymond Queneau and Jean-Paul Sartre.
The singer is famed for songs that include “Parlez-moi d’amour,” “Je suis comme je suis” and “Si tu t’imagines."
Greco’s only daughter, Laurence-Marie, died in 2016.
She was married three times but also had a long affair with jazz trumpeter Miles Davis.
