Jaguar Land Rover incident: Solihull worker 'taken to hospital after chemical alert'

One worker is in hospital and dozens more have had to be assessed after a suspected chemical incident

Workers at a Jaguar Land Rover plant had complained of feeling unwell in an area where a floor sealant had recently been applied to one section of the Solihull site, the West Midlands Hazardous Area Response Team (WMAS HART) tweeted.

The workers were  hosed down and one was taken to hospital after the incident.

"Most staff felt symptoms reduce once out of the affected area and in fresh air," WMAS HART said.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed 28 workers had to be assessed, and one worker was taken to hospital with minor symptoms following the 'suspected chemical incident.'

Video from the scene showed several emergency services vehicles at the site in Solihull.

Local councillor Diane Donaldson told Birmingham Live : "Today I have had reports of an incident at Jaguar Land Rover in Solihull.

"Workers are being hosed down and taken to hospital.

"That’s all the information i can get. I’m hoping everyone is safe and nobody is taken ill. I’m going to contact JLR to see if I can get any further information."

The chemical incident may have been caused by floor paint reacting with aluminium, according to Birmingham Live.

One worker, who did not wish to be named, said: "No-one’s telling us anything and they ain’t sending us home."

West Midlands Fire Service or police have not been called out the plant.
