Devastating fire engulfs famous Airdrie restaurant

Emergency services are still in attendance after a huge blaze ripped through a much-loved Airdrie restaurant this morning.

Six fire crews have been at the scene at Tratoria Guidi (Guidis) on Rochsolloch Road in the town since around 12.50am.

The eaterie, which has been described as an "institution" in the town, has been completely ravaged by flames, devastating the local community.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will remain there until the fire has been fully extinguished and the area has been deemed safe.

Nearby roads have been taped off to members of the public and motorists.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Neil Gray the MSP for Airdrie and Shotts said this morning: "I’m absolutely devastated that Trattoria Guidi has been destroyed by fire overnight. Guidis is an Airdrie institution and I’ve enjoyed so many lovely meals there.

"I hope nobody was hurt and my heart goes out to Carlo and the family as well as all the staff.

"If there is anything I can do to help, as always I am available at Neil.gray.msp@parliament.scot."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 00.49am on Wednesday, August 11 to reports of a fire within a single storey restaurant at Rochsolloch Road, Airdrie.
