Hotels and B&Bs to open in England on July 4 with strict new rules

Hotels and B&B's will reopen in England on July 4 as coronavirus lockdown restrictions are eased.

The news is a huge boost for the ailing hospitality industry that has been forced to keep its doors closed since March.

From next month, those in need of a holiday can finally leave their homes and stay overnight at a hotel or B&B.

Openings will be subject to firms showing they can be Covid-secure.

The good news has been welcomed by the domestic tourism industry that has been crippled by the pandemic.

The future of overnight stay could look very different in a post-pandemic world.

Owners have been working desperately behind the scenes to ensure visitors will feel safe whilst staying overnight.

In some spaces, guests will have to follow social distancing measures and temperature checks could be introduced.

The lockdown relaxation comes amid growing optimism that the the virus is reducing and can be controlled.

Now restrictions are set to be eased across the UK - although at different dates.

In Wales, the country is set to reopen its borders to tourism on 6 July.

And from 13 July, hotels and other tourism businesses will be able to take commercial bookings.

In Northern Ireland, hotels are set to reopen on 20 July, although the industry is pushing for an earlier date.

And in Scotland, hotels are hoping to reopen on 15 July - although this date is subject to change.

Yesterday's death toll in England rose by 15 - the lowest figure since March 13 and the UK has lowered its Covid-19 alert level from 4 to 3.

This means transmission of the virus is no longer judged to be “high or exponentially rising.”
