Harry Kane named in Gareth Southgate's England squad to raise hopes of Champions League return

Harry Kane will be in the England squad for the Nations League finals in Portugal.

England take on the Netherlands on Thursday, June 6, in Guimaraes, just five days after the Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool.

And Kane will wear the captain's armband for Gareth Southgate's England side, despite having missed the last month and a half of the season with an ankle ligament injury picked up during the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final win over Manchester City.

It was hoped Kane would be fit to play in the Champions League final in Madrid, and being named in Southgate's England squad offers Spurs fans a huge boost that their talisman will be back in time to facer Liverpool.

Southgate has named a 27-man training squad who will report to St George's Park, before the Three Lions boss cuts that down to 23 for the tournament in Portugal.

Kane will be joined in the squad by five other players from Tottenham - Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Winks.

Talking about Kane's inclusion, Southgate said: "He's working towards being fit for them for their final, we've got to see how that progresses. He's a player we would want to give every opportunity to. His goalscoring record for us is phenomenally high, and he's captain of the team. We're keeping that door open and we'll have to see how that progresses."
