BREAKING: Hamilton and Celtic clashes with Aberdeen WILL go ahead despite Covid outbreak

The SPFL have confirmed that Aberdeen's upcoming fixtures against Hamilton Accies and Celtic will go ahead as planned.

The Dons' Saturday clash with St Johnstone has been called off after two positive Covid-19 tests among Derek McInnes' squad forced a further six players into a fortnight's self-isolation.

Given the timescale of isolation and health advice, questions have been raised about the impact the outbreak will have on Accies visit to Pittodrie on Wednesday, and their trip to Glasgow to face Celtic next Saturday.

This included today at Nicola Strugeon's daily briefing, where the First Minister said she would not "speculate" on the upcoming games.

However, the SPFL have today cooled speculation about further Premiership games being axed, confirming that Brian Rice's men will visit the Granite City next Wedesday.

In a brief statement, an SPFL spokesperson said: "In response to media enquiries following this afternoon’s announcement from the Joint Response Group, please note that Aberdeen’s next two fixtures, against Hamilton Academical and Celtic, are scheduled to proceed as normal."
