Crystal Palace and Norwich dumped out of Carabao Cup by League Two opponents

League Two sides Colchester and Crawley secured Premier League scalps in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Colchester delivered an excellent display to keep Crystal Palace out in 90 minutes at Selhurst Park.

Andros Townsend missed his penalty for the hosts in the shootout and the U's kept their cool, with Noah Chilvers scoring the decisive spotkick.

Crawley knocked out Norwich thanks to an early goal from Beryly Lubala, with Canaries boss Daniel Farke making wholesale changes.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa put six past Crewe in their second round tie at Gresty Road.

Conor Hourihane scored twice for the visitors with summer signings Ezri Konsa and Frederic Guilbert also scoring their first goals for the club.

Jack Wilshere and Pablo Fornals saw West Ham past Newport while Watford picked up a crucial victory, beating Coventry 3-0.

Southampton edged out Fulham at Craven Cottage while a late winner from Glenn Murray saw Brighton past Bristol Rovers.

At Elland Road, Jack Butland scored a penalty and saved from Jack Harrison in the shootout after Stoke drew 2-2 with Leeds.

Elsewhere, Grimsby's clash with Macclesfield was called off.

The League Two opponents were tied at 0-0 at half-time when torrential rain battered Blundell Park.

Two pitch inspections took place before the players could return to the field.

But after a 30 minute delay, referee Darren Drysdale deemed the conditions unplayable and Grimsby announced the match had been called off.
