Grant Thompson dead: YouTube 'King of Random' creator dies aged 38

YouTube star Grant Thompson has died aged 38, following a paragliding accident.

His family shared the sad news that the creator of viral YouTube series 'King of Random' had passed away following a crash near Sand Hollow State Park.

TMZ has reported that Grant's brother Mark had said the YouTuber had gone paragliding on Monday night and never returned.

He went on to reveal that authorities found his body on Tuesday but the family are still being briefed as to exactly what had happened.

Washington County Sheriff Office has reported that a paraglider had disappeared off the radar near Sand Hollow State Park.

They reported that Grant could not be reached on his mobile after he was over an hour late returning back to base, which then triggered the emergency services to search for him.

GPS data gave Grant's coordinates which enabled a helicopter crew to locate his body.

Washington State County Officers have said that detectives are reviewing video footage that was captured by a recording device that was found at the crash site along with paragliding equipment.

Grant's brother told TMZ that the YouTuber had been paragliding for five months and that he had previously done skydiving and other air related activities.

The King of Random YouTube channel was started by Grant in 2010, where he posted his experiments and life hacks.

It went on to amass 11 million subscribers and nearly 2.5 billion views.

At the time of his death, he was the 321st most subscribed to channel on YouTube, which prompted the video sharing service to share their condolences.

YouTube statement read: "We're deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Grant Thompson, a gifted, passionate and endlessly curious creator.

"We send our deepest condolences to his loving family, The King of Random team and fans."

YouTube star Logan Paul was among the first to share a tribute to Grant.

He wrote on Twitter: "stunned & heartbroken. a man full of vibrancy, curiosity, and passion. we’d talk back and forth about the ins & outs & of the internet, mental health, and creative strategy. RIP brother. @thekingofrandom"
