Gene Reynolds, co-creator of M*A*S*H*, dies aged 96

Gene Reynolds has sadly passed away aged 96.

The co-creator of M*A*S*H* and Lou Grant died on Monday at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in California, reported  The Hollywood Reporter.

Reynolds was the driving force behind M*A*S*H* - which he co-created with Larry Gelbart.

He won multiple awards and accolades for his work on the iconic series, including multiple Primetime Emmy awards and Directors Guild of America awards.

He also created other popular shows such as Lou Grant and Room 222, - however fans became familiar with him as a director.

His 2.5-hour M*A*S*H series finale in February 1983 remains the most-watched episode of series television in history, with more than 105 million viewers tuning in.

Born in 1923 in Cleveland and raised in Detroit, Reynolds relocated to Los Angeles with his family in 1934.

There, he started his career as a child actor age 11, staring in the Laurel & Hardy film March of the Wooden Soldiers.

And notably, Reynolds later became a soldier and fought in World War II.

Reynolds began his career in Hollywood as an actor but then moved on to producing and directing.

His projects include My Three Sons, Hogan's Heroes, F Troop, and Father of the Bride.

He also served as president of the Directors Guild of America from 1993-1997.

Reynolds is survived by his wife, Ann Sweeny, who he's been married to since 1979, and their son Andrew Reynolds.
