Gareth Southgate has signed a new contract that will see him remain England manager until after the 2024 European Championship, the FA has confirmed.
The 51-year-old, who navigated the national team to this summer’s European Championship final and brings up the fifth anniversary of his appointment this month, will see his tenure extended by two years to December 2024 in a deal worth £5million a year, almost double his previous salary.
His assistant Steve Holland has also signed new terms.
Southgate said: "I am delighted that Steve and I have been able to extend our stay in our respective roles. It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark [Bullingham, FA chief executive], John McDermott [technical director] and the board for their support - and of course the players and support team for their hard work.
“We have a great opportunity in front of us and I know they and the fans are all excited about what this squad could achieve in future."
Southgate's attention now turns to readying England for the World Cup in Qatar next November with the manager looking at a wealth of personnel options in most areas of the pitch.
In this month's international break he gave senior debuts to Arsenal pair Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe and the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has excelled on loan at Crystal PALACE.
The FA are planning to line up friendlies against two strong opponents in March but are waiting until next month's Nations League draw to confirm details.
