Breaking: Gabriel earns first Brazil call up as defender is rewarded for fine Arsenal form

Gabriel Magalhaes has been rewarded for his fine Arsenal form with a first ever call up to the senior Brazilian national side.

The 23-year-old has been immense since returning to the Gunners side after a knee injury since August and has played key part in their recent revival and 10 match unbeaten run.

Despite having not lost a game in Arsenal shirt since April the strength in depth that the Selecao have in the defensive areas, with players like Chelsea's Thiago Silva, PSG's Marquinhos and Eder Militao of Real Madrid, meant that the former Lille defender had only made his country's under-23 side.

But now after an injury to Lucas Verissimo, Gabriel will jet off to be part of the senior Brazil group for the first time.

This is not expected to affect his availability for Arsenal when they return from the international break.

During the last round of international fixtures fellow Brazilians Alisson and Fabinho were forced to miss Liverpool's Premier League clash with Watford after being forced to isolate due to the UK government's Covid-19 restrictions.

But after all countries were removed from the red list on October 28 Gabriel should be free to play for the Gunners when they travel to Anfield to play Jurgen Klopp's side when the Premier League resumes in just under a fortnight's time provided that he does not pick up an injuries.

The news comes on the same day that Emile Smith Rowe was called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad after Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford were forced to pull out.

The Hale Ender will be targeting his first ever senior appearance and could make his debut alongside Gunners teammate Aaron Ramsdale who was recalled to the group after missing out on the last squad.

Kieran Tierney will also travel to Scotland as he aims to help his country secure a place in the World Cup qualifying playoff with a win against either Moldova or Denmark.

It is however, currently unclear whether Thomas Partey will be able to join up with Ghana after missing the 1-0 victory over Watford on Sunday due to a tight groin.

"Let’s see what happens with Thomas," said Mikel Arteta after the game. "He wasn’t available to play today.

"He’s got a muscle injury, and we don’t know how it’s going to evolve, so let’s take it day by day."
